Do you feel like your life isn’t what it could be, that there are some things wrong that you just have no hope of sorting out? Or, do you think your whole life is just a mess and you’ve given up?
I’m sure that many people feel hopeless about some things in their lives, or maybe everything. But, have a look at this old door.
The whole bottom rail of the door had gone rotten, and bottom two decorate panels had fallen out, and their’s rot scattered throughout the whole door. Basically, it was going to be thrown away.
I was thinking that perhaps some of the decorate panels might be okay to re-use, so I brought it home. It sat for a while, and I was thinking that I might be able to do more than that, I was thinking that maybe I could cut down the frames around two of the panels to make small cabinet doors for my unfinished entry table with hutch.
And then it happened, one day when I wasn’t looking, my wife decided to seize the opportunity to practice painting calligraphy on it. She never intended to keep her writing, it was just a good opportunity to practice calligraphy on wood. That sealed it for me, I was going to use those two particular panels to be the new doors for my entry table.
And there they are, cut out, trimmed, and stained around the face of the panels and frame to match the rest of the cabinet.
Here they are installed on the entry table and awaiting final staining around the edges and inside. Needless to say, my wife loves it, it has so much rustic charm.
So, what’s the point of all this?
And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”
When God speaks He speaks creatively, Genesis 1 proves that. God says that He will make all things new for you, and that He is faithful, His words are true.
All I’ve done is taken a part of a door to make two small rustic cabinet doors. They’re not perfect, they have flaws, but that’s all part of the rustic charm. Some people call this recycling, others call it up-cycling. What God does is so much more than that. If Revelation 21:5 was applied to that door then we would believe that God would make the entire door new, not just bits of it like I have done.
God makes all things new. Your life, your situations, your problems, whatever it is that is not in agreement with God’s written intent, He makes all things new. He might not do it the way you think He should, but He will surprise you. We can only think of what is good, but He can only think of what is best. Seek the best.
The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.
