J.W.R. Wallwork’s  service record shows a return to the 42nd Squadron Royal Flying Corps.

The entry contains: “In Field” (ER) J. Wallwork (No Number).

I’ll be honest, I’m not sure what this means right now. Certainly the lack of service number indicates a temporary assignment to the R.F.C., not a permanent transfer to a different force. The (ER) bit completely has me stumped, and the “In Field” reference is unclear.

There doesn’t seem to have been any relocations of the squadron at this time, which I assume was the purpose of his previous assignment. However the squadron was moved back to Bailleul on 8th November. Is this the reason for his posting?

I will update this post when I find more information.
